6 Ways To Reduce Negativity

Written By: Deanna

On a scale of 1-10, how negative are you? And most importantly, are you happy with the answer you just gave?

Recently, I read that a human beings natural state is to be happy and healthy. Maybe you don't believe that (I'm not sure if I do, honestly) and that's okay, but I think it's pretty safe to say that most of us are alright with the idea of being a little more positive.

Facebook and Other Social Media
Start with this! One of the best things I've done is cut down on social media and stop following people who treat me like crap. We all have those friends who are never happy for their life, no matter how much they have. Get away from them.

Stop Comparing
Just. Stop.

It's not attractive to constantly complain and bitch about everything. When you always complain about everything, it becomes taxing to be around someone like that. It doesn't do anyone good and it just makes everyone feel down.

Stop Putting Others Down
Sometimes we get caught up in making ourselves feel better by putting others down, and that's the worst thing you can do in order to make yourself feel better. It only hurts someone else, and it doesn't make you feel better. It might for a while, but it won't last for long.

Don't Complain for 24 Hours
For real, it's amazing if you give this a shot how much it can do for you. It's a really interesting idea, and I'm always one who will go for a challenge. Boy is it a challenge to not complain for 24 hours! But it's also really interesting and really helps you put things into perspective about how often you do complain.

Increase Your Positivity
Every now and then, things just come down a matter of tipping the odds. Sometimes there is a lot of negative, so you gotta increase the positive. That means with family, friends, and yourself. Maybe you're a positive quotes kind of person, maybe you are more of an "inspiring stories" kind of person. Working out, smiling, meditating... there are a lot of ways to increase positivity.

Smile and Take A Deep Breath
Okay, so this kind of goes along with the whole increase of your posivitiy thing, but I wanted to add it, too. Sometimes you gotta get to the bottom of the root, and like increasing your positivity, and sometimes as obvious as it sounds you gotta take a quick second, take a breath and smile to get your bearing's back and make sure you don't let your negativity get to you.

So there you have it, a few simple tips. But no matter what, I hope the thing you take away from this is that you can change. No matter the change you want to make, sometimes 24 hours (like that complaining challenge) is all you need.
